I am an Australian woman who has struggled with my weight my whole life. I also have Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome which has an hormonal impact and insulin resistance as part of the picture. Being a victim of the low-fat experiment (now acknowledged to be a complete disaster for human health) in the eighties and nineties I did Weight Watchers 5 times, Jenny Craig twice, Lite n Easy twice only to white knuckle it until my appetite and blood sugar issues made be ‘break’ and then gain more weight than before I started. Blaming myself bingeing and stuck in a cycle of self loathing and body hatred.
After 15 years of that I said no more dieting ever – it doesn’t work. This gave me some of my self esteem back but I continued to gain weight. I got to the point where I was really uncomfortable and annoyed that my body wouldn’t stop gaining. I didn’t eat much, all my friends can testify that I don’t eat that much, it was just the wrong thing, I have since discovered.
After a conversation with a friend at the local pub who sashayed in looking amazing I learnt about Keto, now I had tried Atkins in the past (of course) and it was the best way to lose weight but I still ended up hungry and fell of that wagon too.
Keto is High Fat, Med Protein, Low Carb and it has changed my life. After two days my brain fog lifted and I feel about 50 IQ points smarter and brighter. After three days I had to remind myself to eat, my appetite was gone, by a week I needed an hours less sleep a night and wake feeling bright. I have found the right diet for me twenty years later than I would have liked but I have found it.
This blog is about my journey, I have a large amount of weight to release and having found a diet and lifestyle that works for me I intend to make this a life change. So join me on this journey as we change our bodies and take control of our appetite for good.
